Here is how to apply for a stand with Harare City Council

A lot of people often complain that stands and properties in Harare and a lot of urban areas feel like they are overpriced. One primary reason for this is that Harare City council had not been allocating stands for the past couple of years. However in March this year the city council announced that they had allocated 5 000 stands to those that were on the waiting list. That is bound to release the housing pressure that the city is feeling.

After the news of the mega stand allocation broke out a lot of people were left wondering how they could join this waiting list. Recently Harare City Council published a guide on how you could apply and join the stand waiting list as well as some of the requirements that you must meet before your application is considered.

The requirements

Here are some of the requirements:

  1. You must be a resident  of Harare who is working formally/informally within Harare

  2. You must be at least be 18 years of age

  3. You can only apply if you do not own any other property within Harare, Norton, Ruwa or Chitungwiza

  4. In the event that you are married (custom/civil) to more than one wife your second and subsequent wives can also apply for their own stand but if you only have one wife you can only apply for one stand jointly.

How to apply

To apply you must go and download the application form from the Harare City Council website. You will see the same requirements we listed above. You will also need to attach copies of your national ID as well as Marriage Certificate. This is your normal straight forward form like the ones you have been filling all your life as each slot you have to fill up is pretty much self-explanatory. Just make sure you select the Stand Waiting List option.

Once you have completed the form you should visit any Harare City Council district office to pay your application fees. After you have made the payment you can then take the filled form and receipt of payment to the council offices at 2 Remberance Drive for processing. You will be issued with a waiting list number.

After you have done all this your name will be put on a waiting list. All you have to do after this…. is to wait.
